AACD Staff Volunteers at WDA's Mission of Mercy

On Thursday, June 28, AACD Executive Office staff members volunteered at the Wisconsin Dental Association's (WDA) "Mission of Mercy" event in Madison, WI, at the Alliant Energy Center. "Mission of Mercy" offers free dental care to adults and children in need. Services provided through the clinic include cleanings, fillings, and extractions.

AACD staff helped set up tables and patient chairs, unloaded boxes of dental supplies, and assembled patient goody bags with toothbrushes, toothpaste and dental floss.

The WDA estimated that more than 3,000 patients were helped during the two-day event, which took place June 29 and June 30.

The event included:

• 1,810 volunteers, including 395 dentists
• 3,595 patient visits
• $1.75 million in donated care
• 1,205 cleanings
• 2,567 fillings
• 2,822 extractions
• 80 root canals
• 153 partial dentures

When AACD staff left the Alliant Thursday after their shift, they noticed that several patients had already started to line up for services, even though the clinic did not open until the next morning.
