AACD Saddened by Passing of Accredited Fellow and Past President Joe L. Carrick, DDS

January 13, 2017 by AACD Executive Office
An AACD member since 1988, Dr. Carrick achieved Accredited Fellow status in the Academy in 1994. He also served as the President of the AACD from 1998-1999.

Carrick received his bachelor’s degree at West Texas State University and then earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1977. Throughout his career, he taught as an adjunct professor at several national and international universities and routinely contributed articles to dental journals while maintaining a private practice. His commitment to being on the cutting edge of dentistry, his passion for patients, and his dedication to the concept of total dentistry truly made him one-of-a-kind.

“For Joe, practicing dentistry wasn’t a job—it was a life-calling,” said AACD past president, Dr. Marty Zase, AAACD. “Rather than ‘going to work’, he was going to do the thing he loved: seeing his patients, with whom he built long-standing relationships.”

“The AACD will always be grateful for Dr. Carrick’s contributions to the Academy,” said AACD President, Dr. Chiann Fan Gibson. AAACD. “In addition to his service to the Academy as the President of the Board of Directors, Joe volunteered his time to serve on the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry, as an Accreditation and Fellowship Examiner, and on numerous AACD committees. His dedication to the Academy was unfailing, and his passion for cosmetic dentistry was exceptional.”

The Academy offers its sincere condolences to the family of Dr. Joe Carrick.
