AACD Charitable Foundation Takes Part in National "No More Challenge"

March 1, 2017 by AACD Executive Office

The AACD Charitable Foundation has joined in the NO MORE Challenge, a friendly fundraising competition that raises money for causes like our Give Back a Smile program (GBAS). Give Back a Smile will compete for $150,000 in funding from Verizon.

NO MORE was launched in March 2013 by a coalition of leading advocacy groups, service providers, the U.S. Department of Justice, and major corporations. Its mission is to unite and strengthen a diverse, global community to help end domestic violence and sexual assault.

For the first time, the Give Back a Smile program will participate in the NO MORE Challenge. GBAS helps restore some of the most devastating effects of domestic and sexual violence by restoring damaged smiles for survivors of domestic and sexual violence who’ve received dental injuries from the abuse. Missing and broken teeth are a constant reminder of the past and diminish a survivor’s sense of self-worth.

“I feel very fortunate to have participated in the Give Back a Smile program. It has raised my self-esteem significantly and enabled me to further recover from my traumatic past of physical, verbal and mental abuse,” said one program recipient.

Financial support of the AACD Charitable Foundation is crucial to restoring smiles and lives. It ensures Give Back a Smile applicants are efficiently connected with volunteer cosmetic dentists to restore their damaged smiles. A $100 donation supports direct expenses often required to restore smiles (i.e. laboratory or specialist fees). A $500 gift provides a scholarship for a GBAS program recipient enrolled in college and $1,000 helps 12 GBAS patients get to and from their dental appointments.

The NO MORE Challenge launches on CrowdRise on Thursday, March 2nd at 12:00pm ET and runs through Tuesday, April 11th at 1:59:59 pm ET. The organization that raises the most during the Challenge wins a $40,000 donation; and second place through sixth place get $20,000, $10,000, $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively. The Challenge also includes extra opportunities for charities to win additional funds for their causes, including Weekly Bonus Challenges and a HopeLine Phone Drive contest.
