AACD Fact Sheet
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry® (AACD) is the largest
international dental organization dedicated specifically to advancing excellence in the art and
science of cosmetic dentistry. Founded in 1984, the AACD's Executive Office
is located in Madison, Wisc.
Cosmetic Dentistry
This field of dentistry is committed to total oral health care that enhances a person's appearance.
Mission
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry is dedicated to advancing excellence in the art
and science of cosmetic dentistry and encouraging the highest standards of
ethical conduct and responsible patient care among cosmetic dentists.
Membership
The AACD has over 7600 members in more than 60
countries around the globe. Members of the Academy include cosmetic and
reconstructive dentists, dental laboratory technicians, dental auxillaries,
dental hygienists, educators, researchers, and students. Membership
categories include General, Sustaining, Accredited and Fellowship. Members can achieve the status of Accredited
and Fellowship through display of superior skill in the field of cosmetic
dentistry.
AACD Programs
The AACD has developed multiple programs to benefit the public and keep
members on the cutting edge of the cosmetic dentistry field. These programs
include:
- Annual Scientific Session
2007's edition in Atlanta will be our 23rd Annual Scientific
Session. The yearly conference is the premier place for the cosmetic dentistry world
to converge for a week of education, entertainment and
camaraderie.
- Credentialing Program
The AACD offers the most recognized higher-education credentialing program in
cosmetic dentistry. The program allows members of the AACD to undergo a
stringent process of clinical examinations and oral presentations designed
to help participants excel in the field of cosmetic dentistry.
- Toll-Free & Web Site Consumer Referral Service
Consumers interested in finding a cosmetic dentist can call the AACD
Executive Office at the toll-free number (800) 543-9220
or visit the AACD online at www.aacd.com.
The consumer is then referred to an AACD member eligible for referral in
the corresponding area.
- Journals and Newsletters
The Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry, published quarterly, and
bi-monthly Academy Connection are the leading print authorities
on cosmetic dentistry. These publications are filled with professional
advice, editorial content, and the latest trends in cosmetic dentistry.
- Web site
Located at www.aacd.com, the AACD Web
site is filled with information for members, consumers, and press.
Features of the site include an online press kit, a members only section,
information regarding our national programs and referral services,
registration for the Annual Scientific Session, as well as an archive of
past AACD materials.
- Give Back A Smile
AACD's Charitable Foundation's primary program, Give Back A Smile, has donated over $3 million in restorative dental services to survivors of domestic violence.
