Accreditation Courses at the Annual AACD Scientific Session

The AACD maintains the most recognized advanced credentialing program in cosmetic dentistry. In New Orleans, members will have the opportunity to begin their path to excellence in cosmetic dentistry, or continue their advanced education by taking the next step in the Accreditation process. The Written Exam, a required element of the program that tests foundational knowledge in cosmetic dentistry, will be administered on Thursday. To help fit into your busy class schedule, several of the various Accreditation courses and workshops will take place at multiple times throughout the week.

Please check back to this Web site frequently as specific dates, times, and locations for the following events will be posted as they become available.

Accreditation Written Examinations
For Dentists and Laboratory Technicians

The Accreditation Written Exam challenges a candidate’s knowledge in the foundational aspects of cosmetic dentistry. Dentists and lab technicians who are well versed in all phases of cosmetic dentistry are expected to successfully complete this first step in AACD’s credentialing process. Failure to pass the written exam indicates that a candidate would likely benefit from further education prior to attempting the clinical cases.

Eligibility for the Written Exam:
To take the Accreditation Written Exam during AACD New Orleans 2008, candidates must meet the following requirements:

· AACD membership in good standing (Doctor and Lab Technician)
· Registered to attend the Annual Scientific Session.
· Completed application and paid all applicable fees prior to beginning the exam.

Pre-Registration for the Written Exam is Required
Advanced registration for the 24th Annual AACD Scientific Session closed at 5:00 pm CT on April 17, 2008. If you are interested in taking the written examination you must register at the AACD Registration Desk on-site in New Orleans. Pre-registration for the written examination will close on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 6:00 pm. There will be no written examination registrations taken the day of the examination.

Advanced Accreditation Workshop

The Advanced Accreditation Workshop provides an in-depth analysis of how Accreditation cases are judged, as well a chance for candidates to have their own cases reliably critiqued. Although this workshop is not required, it is universally judged as the most helpful step for those candidates approaching Accredited status. Attendees are encouraged to have taken the two required workshops in the credentialing process prior to attending this advanced course.

All attendees should bring clinical case submissions to be reviewed during the breakout session:

For slide submission: "before and after" slide carousels.
For digital submission: two CD's and their own laptop

Accreditation Workshop

AACD’s Accreditation process begins by attending this required workshop, which provides a detailed overview of the required parameters of the credentialing process. This course is open to all dentists and lab technicians attending the conference in New Orleans.

Criteria Workshop

This is the second required workshop in AACD's Accreditation program. This course begins with a display of cases that have been both successful and unsuccessful, which are then evaluated by using criteria that Accreditation Examiners follow in judging clinical cases. The process of analyzing these cases is enlightening for anyone preparing to submit clinical cases for the Accreditation process.

Examiners' Calibration

Active Examiners in the Accreditation program must attend this course in order to maintain active Examiner status. This course can also be taken to fulfill the maintenance requirement for Accredited/Fellow members.

Laboratory Technician Accreditation Workshop

The lab technicians' workshop focuses on requirements in the laboratory technician Accreditation protocol, and provides an overview of the process as it specifically applies to lab technicians.  All laboratory technicians interested in pursuing Accreditation in AACD are encouraged to attend this workshop.

Photography Workshop for Accreditation Documentation

This workshop is designed to teach participants basic camera operation and focuses on documentation of cases. Techniques for improving the quality and consistency of clinical photography will be discussed. Mentors will be available to answer questions and provide clinical instruction. Attendees are required to bring their own camera for the workshop. This is not a required course and attendance is limited.

Fellowship Workshop

Accredited members interested in taking the final step in AACD advanced credentialing program are encouraged to attend this workshop. The protocol for Fellowship will be discussed and active AACD Fellows will be on-hand to discuss the program in-depth with attendees.
