AACD Welcomes First Female Dentist as PresidentMay 18, 2015 by AACD Executive OfficeAt the 31st Annual AACD Scientific Session in San Francisco, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry inaugurated AACD Accredited Fellow, Dr. Joyce Bassett, of Phoenix, Arizona, as the first female dentist to preside over the board. This comes at a time when women are holding a more powerful role in dentistry. While women have always dominated dental buying decisions (85 percent) and cosmetic patients are made up of about 60 percent women, we’re also seeing growing numbers of female dental school students (averaging 50 percent or more), and the vast majority of dental auxiliary are female. As someone who embraces continuing education, clinical excellence, and responsible esthetics, Dr. Bassett is ideally positioned to represent females in dentistry. She is an Associate Member, American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry; a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry; a Fellow in the International Academy for Dental Facial Aesthetics; and she is widely published in scholarly journals. Dr. Bassett is the Founder of Women Teaching Women Cosmetic Learning Facility, and served on the Board of Trustees of the AACD Charitable Foundation in support of its Give Back A Smile program. |
